BioHeatUSA President Named to Trade Group Leadership

- Scott Nichols, president of BioHeatUSA, a leading distributor of wood and wood pellet central heating systems, has been named secretary of the board of directors of the newly formed Biomass Thermal Energy Council (BTEC). The council is a non-profit trade association dedicated to advancing the use of thermal energy applications for biomass by educating policy makers, teachers, business people, and the general public.

'Biomass thermal energy is a term that describes the use of natural, renewable materials (wood, wood pellets, wood waste, grasses and other energy crops) for producing heat and power,' said Nichols.

'We're educating people as to the most efficient use of our country's extensive biomass resources, and the fact that in order for them to remain sustainable, we must use them responsibly. The conversion of biomass to thermal energy commonly achieves 80%-90% efficiency, whereas converting biomass to electrical energy is accomplished at efficiencies between 25%-30%. I can't stress enough how strongly we need to consider biomass for thermal applications as one of the best renewable energy alternatives available.'

BTEC has begun extensive educational activities at the federal, state and regional level to promote the use of biomass thermal energy and shape responsible renewable energy policy.

Nichols heads a third-generation, family owned company headquartered in Lyme, New Hampshire and Oak Creek, Colorado that has been selling and servicing wood and wood pellet burning residential central heating equipment for more than 30 years.
