Discontinued Wood Boilers and Accessories

Wood Boiler and Accessory Manuals and Brochures

Years Behind Us...Put us Years Ahead

Since 1974, HS-Tarm wood boilers have been imported into North America. There were over 10 different models that burned multiple fuels like cordwood, coal, and fossil fuels. With this long history of boilers being sold, there are many boilers being installed or put back on-line. Below are links to original owner’s manuals and brochures. It is critical that the discontinued wood boilers are installed correctly and checked for any safety concerns. Most parts are still available. Also, make sure to take a look at TARM Biomass' current boiler line-up. There have been many changes to boiler design which has increased both boiler efficiency and operation. Please feel free to contact TARM Biomass with any questions.

Is your discontinued wood boiler technologically obsolete?

HS-Tarm boilers can last decades.  Tarm Biomass continues to supply most spare parts for discontinued wood boilers.  Keep in mind that today's boilers run circles around old boilers with regard to efficiency, safety, cleanliness and ease of use.  Before you make an investment in an old boiler, please give us a call to discuss the advantages of purchasing a modern wood or wood pellet boiler.  You may be impressed by how much technology has changed.

The Following is a Safety Checklist:

• Read and follow the manual for your boiler. In most cases manuals are available for download above.  In some cases what has been deemed safe and acceptable by modern practice has changed since the product manuals were originally published and approved.  Tarm Biomass has made no attempt to update manuals for discontinued boilers.  Always consult local code and safety officials having jurisdiction or contact an insurance agent.

• Make sure the boiler meets all clearances to combustibles and that the floor is properly suited for the boiler.

• Ensure a new, properly sized, ASME stamped pressure relief valve is properly installed.  Contact Tarm Biomass to obtain the correct relief valve.

• Hire a qualified installer or service person to inspect the boiler and/or consult with the local authority having jurisdiction.

• Ensure an overheat aquastat is installed that activates the largest zone in the house if the boiler exceeds 200 ºF. Test operation.  Tarm Biomass has new aquastats available.

• Ensure that a gravity over-heat dump loop to prevent the boiler from overheating when there is a power outage (this zone needs to be at least 10% of the boiler’s output). Tarm Biomass provides the proper valves for gravity dump zones.

• Ensure all doors, seals, and gaskets checked for proper sealing and operation. If the boiler has a Samson regulator; check for proper operation and calibration. DO NOT OPERATE A BOILER MADE FOR USE WITH A SAMSON CONTROL BY MANUALLY HOLDING OPEN THE COMBUSTION AIR FLAP!  Contact Tarm Biomass for new parts.

• Thoroughly clean the boiler.

• Check the entire heating system for proper operation to ensure heat can be removed from the boiler i.e. pumps, expansion tank, valves, etc are all working correctly.

• Ensure the chimney has been professionally inspected and cleaned and meets the proper draft and size requirements for the boiler.

• DO NOT begin using a used boiler without having a qualified service person assess its safety and condition first.

LK 823 Mixing Valve

If it is a new installation, we highly recommend the use of a Termovar Mixing Valve with built-in balancing. This valve ensures a minimum return-water temperature to the boiler which increases the boiler efficiency, prevents tarring, condensation, and prolongs the life of the boiler.
